People are celebrating Chinese New Year
Today (Feb 10th 2024), the Chinese New Year is being celebrated by people of Chinese origin all over the world, including Myanmar. In China, the New Year is celebrated with joyous festivities to mark the beginning of the Year of the Dragon.
Today Saturday is not only Chinese New Year, but also the first day of the official start of the Spring Festival holiday, which is held from February 10th to 17th, as millions of Chinese return home for sightseeing. Chinese state media reported that 9,000 million people traveled for the Chinese New Year holiday.
In Tibetan culture, today is the New Year’s Day that started in 2151. In the Indian city of Dharamsala, where most of the Tibetans live in refuge, Tibetans in exile welcomed the Year of the Dragon today, led by monks. Similarly, Taiwan Malaysia Singapore Vietnam In many Asian countries and regions such as Korea, Chinese New Year festivals are celebrated according to tradition.
In Myanmar, which is facing political and economic instability, the annual meeting was held without the crowds like in previous years.
